Turn Left

Although the default position for going ahead is on the left, be aware of situations in which it makes more sense to position towards the right.

Where there is a side road on the left only, lanes can be used to keep traffic flowing efficiently. The right lane can be used for going ahead, leaving the left lane clear for those proceeding on the filter light (if there is one).

When the left filter light goes off and only the round light is showing, all traffic is allowed to proceed, including those turning left.

Always be aware of cyclists and other road users when turning.

A light-controlled junction from above. The signal on the corner shows red with a green left filter arrow lit beside it, so traffic turning left may go while everything else waits. A blue car is at the line and a yellow car crosses ahead of it.
